It’s not just the awesomeness of the mind-body link, but something much beyond that! It’s the inner universe of the Mind-Body-Heart-Soul all together, interlinked, connected, united, each layer of living in tandem with each other and the outer universe of interpersonal, social, demographics, nations, planet and cosmos.
Some of this we can comprehend and deal with, and that is where I began with myself too.
As a student of psychology in the late seventies, I learned the word “psychosomatic” and an entire subject on Physiological Psychology educated me in the science of mind-body link. Much of what I learned stayed with me through my life. Working with people all along, as a manager, researcher, academician, trainer, coach was mostly about the mind and not the body. The word “psychology” evokes visions of inner dialogues, emotions, relationships, groups, social networks and the like. The body link, used to come up infrequently, and then fizzle out. A deeply encoded cultural construct is that if you have physiological issues, meet a doctor for a cure, and if you need to work with the mind, meet a psychologist. The mind-body divide has been hugely reinforced by regulation the two professions of medicine and psychology, which considers them as separate, and not linked. It is often left to the “alternative” healers to draw the mind-body link, and work with these together.
In my life too, I don’t stop at mind-body but often refer to mind-body-heart-soul connection and work at all these levels with myself and my clients too.
My healing journey began several years ago, and perhaps in a previous lifetime too. The journey gathered momentum in my forties, when significant experiences occurred with my body. The great milestone was my healing myself of migraines which used to occur frequently. The healing came through embracing the pain and understanding what it was trying to tell me. I haven’t had a full-fledged migraine since then, and if I feel one coming on, I know what to do about it, although I don’t fully understand the science of why my migraines went away, but some illness definitely left my body allowing it to heal itself. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Increasing degrees of alignment happened over time and majorly with my self-healing of diabetes with Dr. Pramod Tripathi from the Freedom From Diabetes program as my charioteer, and Dr. Dinesh Ishwar as my healer now with Beat The Diabetes (BTD) program. There was a complete lifestyle transformation re-writing and re-calibrating many ways in which I nourish the mind-body-heart-soul. If you think a weight loss of 18 kilograms and a vibrance of good health and all parameters in normal range, were miracles, let me tell you these were just small aspects of the transformation that happened.
Till this point in my life, I was a coaching psychologist, doing life and leadership coaching incorporating mind-heart-soul work. I realized that excluding body healing from the rest of healing, was futile. That is when, serendipitously, I encountered the Health Coach Training Program at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (USA) which came to me as an offering from the universe.
Today, as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, knowing that primary and secondary food is what feeds and nourishes the mind-body-heart-soul is where I have arrived.
The diabetes reversal self-healing journey and the insights and principles it generated along the way are the primary lessons to bring to others. Perhaps it is possible to rise above heredity and environment influences on our holistic well-being Perhaps clients who will join our programs will understand and be encouraged or inspired. Perhaps the cynical will start believing. Perhaps those who say it’s too difficult will find it easier. If nothing else, I would have shared my story just for the heck of it.
