Does your food love the planet as much as you do?

Hi everybody, I am Aneeta Madhok, an Integrative Nutrition health Coach.

By profession I am a psychologist – a coaching psychologist which is slightly different from a counselling psychologist. I work in the corporate sector with coaching leaders and executives, with a special focus on women in leadership positions. A few years ago, I became vegan and moved to a plant-based diet for health reasons, in order to reverse my diabetes. The effect of the plant-based diet was miraculous and I decided that the way to good physical health and mental health was to begin with food. After all, you cannot coach a person with anger issues if he is going to go home and eat fried pork belly or something like that.

So, I graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition that helps me take a holistic approach to human wellbeing, starting with food. So, its about eating….

You will ask me, What does Sustainability have to do with Eating? I will ask you
Does Your Food Also Love the Planet As Much As You Do?

You see, our planet is the only home we have. We have 7 billion people living on this planet. We believe in vasudaive kutumbakam which means all humans are one family and one species, just like any other animal species on mother earth.

By 2050, this 7 billion will grow to 10 billion – so think about your village, town, city, nation, with 30% more people in 30 years’ time. Not only will there be overcrowding, lack of urban infrastructure, but also the planet’s food and water resources will become scarce.

The way we eat today, our food consumes more resources from mother earth than it gives back. The vast population of humans still love nature, love the planet, but their food does not love the planet as much as them. Because even today, food production contributes to over 30% of greenhouse gas emissions, mostly through livestock production, and occupies 40% of the land available, and uses 70% of freshwater available. Over farming, overfishing, over consumption of livestock, all lead to depletion of mother earth’s abundant resources in our food. Sustainable food production addresses issues of organic farming, polluting chemicals and fertilizers, loss of bio-diversity through GMO crops, ground water depletion,

Today, a lot of research goes into what kind of food is actually more sustainable and can provide for the future food needs of the human race at the same time provide for healthy and nourishing food. All roads lead to Rome, and all research points to the fact that the future of this planet lies in plant-based diets which have low environmental impact, contribute to future food and nutrition security, healthy life for present generations, affordable, and optimise the planetary resources.

A food transformation is needed. If we always eat like our ancestors ate, our future generations will land up with no food to eat because the planet will not sustain that kind of food. A new approach relevant to our times is needed to restore and conserve the planet.

A change has already begun in many parts of the world. We are now taking concrete action in creating a sustainable planet for our future generations. This revolution is already gathering speed and accelerating each year. The future is vegan. Eating a plant-based vegan diet, with a very small proportion of seafood is the only kind of food that loves the planet back as much as you do. I am not the only one saying so!.

For me, I started out being vegan for health reasons, and then it dawned on me that on a plant based diet, I was living a life of alignment with not only myself, but the planet and the universe too. We don’t have to kill poor voiceless animals in mass abattoirs and manufacture them in a factory farm, and deprive little calves of the milk from their mothers. Also, the planetary resources used up in a plant based diet is more sustainable than livestock farming which takes up huge amounts of resources from mother earth.

So your health is planetary health and if you live a life in alignment with the planet, you live a life in alignment with yourself.

Today I am a Health coach, specializing in helping people transform to a healthier lifestyle. All of my clients have adopted a sustainable plant-based diet and have transformed their mind-body, heart & soul.

The only first step to good health is taking responsibility for the food on your table which you love so much, to love you back. The planet you love so much, and the food you eat to love the planet as much as you do…
